Pay Our Bursary Allowance, Ondo Students Tell Mimiko

The National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) yesterday appealed to the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to pay their arrears of bursary allowances and scholarship.
According to the students, the urgent payment of their bursary allowances would help to reduce the financial burden on their parents.
In a statement jointly signed by its president, Charles Iwakun and assistant general secretary, Olufemi Sanni, respectively and made available to journalists in Akure, the state capital yesterday, the students said they are not finding life easy on their respective campuses due to non-payment of their allowances.
The students said: “Our cry now is that the government should commence the continuation of the payment and also open the portal for registration for the 2015 bursary and scholarship”.
They maintained that some of them who are from the state are currently deprived of government’s assistance of N10, 000 per student annually of the bursary allowances.
They also accused the state government of paying few students the 2014 busary allowances and scholarship fee in March and April.
The students observed that in a country like Nigeria where the economic factors have limited income of most parents, many students live on the government bursaries and scholarship to survive.
They disclosed further that all efforts made in the past few months to draw government attention to the non-payment of their allowances proved abortive .
According to them, “We have taken several steps and have written so many letters to government quarters that have to do with bursary/scholarship and we believe that the bursary/scholarship should have been paid before now.
“We therefore appeal to the entire Ondo state students to be calm and hopeful as we believe the government will attend to the continuous payment of the bursary/scholarship by the end of this month”.
