university of california student dies in fire-ANDREA

a fire at her apartment was murdered, police said Tuesday.
Firefighters discovered the body of University of California, Los Angeles student Andrea “Andy” DelVesco, 21, during the 7 a.m. blaze on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
DelVesco was a beloved member of UCLA’s Pi Beta Phi sorority who was facing drug dealing charges when she died, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Investigators believe someone set the fire on purpose, and they’ve found evidence that labels DelVesco’s death a homicide, Los Angeles Police Det. Lauren Rauch told KNBC-TV. Police are now searching for “person of interest” seen running from the fire, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told the Times.

UCLA student Andrea “Andy” DelVesco, 21, was found dead in her apartment during a fire at the building on Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

More than 30 firefighters put out the fire in 15 minutes, and they found DelVesco in a smoke-filled apartment where she was “sadly beyond medical help,” according to the fire department. No one else was injured. Both LAFD and LAPD are investigating the fatal blaze.
DelVesco, a psychology and Spanish major, had just moved in to the Roebling Ave. apartment in Westwood and was starting her fourth year, the Daily Bruin reported.
She was scheduled to appear in court Friday on her charges of possession for the sale of MDMA, LSD, methamphetamine and psilocybin, according to court documents cited by the Times. MDMA is the party drug also known as ecstasy, and psilocybin is found in hallucinogenic mushrooms.

UCLA police arrested DelVesco June 4, and prosecutors charged her on July 8. She was out on bail and had pleaded not guilty, a spokeswoman for the L.A. County District Attorney’s office told the Times.
DelVesco’s death caused grief among her fellow students as classes started at UCLA on Thursday. “Heaven gained its brightest angel this week,” UCLA Pi Beta Phi said Thursday in a Facebook post. The sorority is dedicating its recruitment effort for the year to DelVesco, the post said.
“Andy had a contagious spirit and was a fearless giver,” chapter president Jacquie Medeiros said in a statement to the Times. “Andy was a friend to every person she met. She was always inclusive and there for everyone. More than anything, Andy wanted us to be ourselves … and most of all to never ever give up.”
